"Desire"
Growing up in a somewhat contemporary church, the idea of singing a song in church by someone who was not particularly a worship leader was not forbidden…just kind of strange.
Fast forward a few years to my time at UBC and the idea of doing such a song is not only normal, but also invited. I remember talking to John Mark for a bit about it after a Wednesday night at UBC and him saying “Isn’t is crazy how some of Ryan Adams’ songs turn out and how much truth there are in others?”
That theme comes up often across all art; the search and the journey toward truth. So I wanted to share the lyrics from the song. I think they are brilliant.

Two hearts fading, like a flower. And all this waiting, for the power. For some answer, to this fire. Sinking slowly. The water’s higher. Desire. With no secrets. No obsession. This time I’m speeding with no direction. Without a reason. What is this fire? Burning slowly. My one and only. Desire. You know me. You don’t mind waiting. You just can’t show me, but God I’m praying, That you’ll find me, and that you’ll see me, that you run and never tire
